The Graduate Certificate of Bioethics is designed for health care professionals, scientists, policymakers and others who want to explore complex ethical issues in medicine, genetics and biological sciences.
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least 50% average or a minimum of three years work experience in a relevant field. Applicants are required to provide a Curriculum Vitae and a reference from their employer.
The course comprises 24 points of study which provide knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required of skilled practitioners working in a range of fields addressing bioethics. Key topics include bioethical principles, ethical theory, questions of life and death, ethical issues in patient care, human-research ethics, legal and policy issues in bioethics, and public health ethics.
The Monash University Centre for Human Bioethics is one of the world's top-eight bioethics centres. The teaching staff have an excellent reputation for research and teaching, and they are active and prominent contributors to public debate and professional discussions about a variety of bioethical issues.
Upon completion you will be equipped for careers in life sciences, public health, journalism, public policy and healthcare. The Graduate Certificate in Bioethics can be taken as a standalone degree, while also providing an entry point in the Master of Bioethics.
