Become a skilled building project manager with this 2-year diploma covering quantity surveying, project planning, contractor management, and construction business operations. Designed for those working in or entering the construction industry, combining classroom learning with practical on-site experience.

What you'll need to get in

Applicants must complete a Pre-training Review (PTR) and literacy and numeracy assessment to determine suitability. Practical demonstration of skills on a building and construction site may be required for some units. Students must have access to an active building and construction site during their studies, though VU can support with simulation activities if needed. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available for relevant work or study experience. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee entry, as past academic performance and relevant experience may be considered.

Subject breakdown

The course covers 27 units (24 core and 3 elective) including: Quantity surveying and cost estimation; Planning and scheduling of labour and materials; Contractor selection and management; Project risk and quality management; Site supervision and communication; Construction technology and site surveys; Workplace safety and WHS risk management; Business codes, standards, and legal obligations; Structural principles for residential and commercial construction (Class 1, 10, and Class 2-9 buildings up to 3 storeys); Plan and specification interpretation; Building sketches and drawings; Small business finance; Environmental management; and Professional technical and legal reporting.
