Applicants must complete a Pre-training Review (PTR) and literacy and numeracy assessment to determine suitability. Practical demonstration of skills on a building and construction site may be required for some units. Students must have access to an active building and construction site during their studies, though VU can support with simulation activities if you're not currently working in the industry. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee entry, as past academic performance and relevant experience may be considered.
The course covers 27 units (24 core and 3 elective) including: business risk management and WHS risk leadership; building codes and standards for Class 1, 10, 2-9, and Type B/C construction; contract selection, preparation and administration; cost estimation and labour/material scheduling; site communication and supervision; legal requirements and compliance; structural principles for residential and commercial construction; plan and specification interpretation; tender documentation; building sketches and drawings; site surveys and set-out procedures; costing systems; project planning and scheduling; contractor selection and management; environmental management; technical and legal reporting; and building business finance management.
