Prepare for a dynamic career in politics, public service, advocacy, or non-profit organizations with ANU's Bachelor of Public Policy. This three-year program develops expertise in policy analysis, research methods, and data interpretation to address complex public policy challenges.

What you'll need to get in

Applicants must meet minimum academic requirements including ATAR 85 or IB 33. Domestic applicants need completion of the Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or equivalent, with demonstrated English language proficiency. International applicants are assessed on equivalent selection ranks based on their qualifications. Adjustment factors are available for students facing difficult circumstances. Previous higher education, VET qualifications, or work and life experience may also be considered for admission.

Subject breakdown

The program covers three core areas: Public Policy Analysis and Methods (including quantitative and qualitative research methods, econometrics, and data analysis); Public Policy Theory (covering public sector economics, philosophy and public policy, bureaucracy and politics, and social inequalities); and Public Policy Practice (including internships, alcohol and drugs policy, corruption studies, environmental policy, health systems, and First Nations policy). Students also complete compulsory courses in Introduction to Data and Methods for Political Science, Public Policy Theory and Practice, and Social Policy Principles and Practice. Introductory courses cover global population challenges, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and social foundations. The program includes 12 units of Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving courses and 60-72 units of electives allowing specialization in areas like computing, history, or marketing.
