Gain a nationally recognised qualification to become an early childhood educator. This course combines online learning with hands-on work placement, equipping you with skills to support children's learning, development, and wellbeing in early childhood education settings across Australia.
To enrol in this course, you must present a clear Working with Children Check and clear police check. A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is mandatory for all students undertaking nationally recognised training in Australia. You'll need basic digital skills including the ability to use email, internet, create and save documents, and access online learning platforms. Access to a reliable computer or laptop with internet connection is essential for the online components. A headset, microphone, and webcam are recommended for a smoother online learning experience. If you're not confident with technology, support is available to help you become comfortable with the required tools.
The course covers 15 core units and 2 elective units totalling 17 units. Core subjects include: Identifying and responding to children and young people at risk, workplace health and safety, supporting inclusion and diversity, supporting children's health safety and wellbeing, nurturing babies and toddlers, developing positive relationships with children, using approved learning frameworks, supporting holistic learning and development, providing play and learning experiences, connecting children with the natural environment, observing children to inform practice, understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, meeting legal and ethical obligations, and working effectively in early childhood education and care. Additional units cover first aid in education and care settings. Elective options include reflecting on professional practice and following basic food safety practices.

The practical work placement experience provides hands-on training and networking opportunities that can lead to permanent employment. Many graduates have successfully transitioned into permanent roles at their placement organisations, with some progressing to further qualifications such as Bachelor degrees in education or social work.
