Launch your construction career with hands-on training in carpentry or allied trades. This nationally recognised Certificate II teaches you essential skills, safety practices, and practical techniques needed to work as an apprentice carpenter, construction assistant, or trades assistant.
You must be at least 16 years old to enrol. Prior to applying, complete the Informed Choices Student Self-Assessment. You'll need to complete a Pre-enrolment Skills Review questionnaire to identify your literacy, numeracy, digital and learning skills. Desirable skills include understanding Work Health and Safety guidelines, ability to work in teams or independently, basic maths (add, subtract, multiply), and legible writing. No prior construction experience required.
Core units include: Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry, Plan and organise work, Carry out measurements and calculations, Undertake a basic construction project, and Apply WHS requirements in construction. Carpentry focus covers basic levelling procedures, carpentry hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, material handling, and reading plans. Allied Trades focus covers bricklaying, plastering, painting and tiling materials, tool use, levelling procedures, plaster work, and wall tile installation. All students learn workplace documentation, safety procedures, and practical construction techniques.
