TAFE SA
3 weeks or 5 weeks
Master the fundamentals of fashion pattern making and create custom-fit garments. Perfect for beginners wanting to design and sew their own clothes with professional techniques and confidence.
Minimum age requirement is 15 years. While some experience with a domestic sewing machine and hand stitching is helpful, all levels are welcome. Students should bring essential sewing and pattern tools including pins, hand sewing needles, fabric and paper scissors, quick unpick, tape measure, 30cm ruler, mechanical pencil, eraser, and sticky tape. A notebook and pen are also required.
The course covers fundamental pattern-making techniques including using drafting tools to create garment patterns, drafting a basic sample-size skirt as a foundation, taking accurate body measurements for custom-fit designs, creating personalized patterns for tops, skirts, and trousers, sewing and fitting toiles to achieve perfect shape and fit, finalizing custom pattern blocks for future use, and exploring simple design variations through pattern adaptation. Practical experience is gained with professional-grade tools and materials.
TAFE SA is a leading vocational education provider in South Australia with extensive experience in fashion and design training.
