Applicants must have completed Queensland Year 12 or equivalent with General English (Units 3 & 4, C) and Mathematical Methods or Mathematics B. Specialist Mathematics or Mathematics C is recommended. International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements including IELTS overall 7 (writing 7, speaking 7, reading 6, listening 6) or equivalent. The minimum entry score threshold is ATAR 97.5 or IB Rank 41.25. Applicants from outside Australia can apply directly to UQ or through approved agents.
The program integrates two major subject areas: Computer Science and Law. In computer science, students study the fundamentals of creating and analysing computer-based systems with specialization options in cyber security, data science, machine learning, programming languages, or scientific computing. The law component includes a core of prescribed courses covering legal theory and a range of electives in areas important to the technology industry. Students develop understanding of how law regulates and shapes science and technology. Learning is delivered through lectures, tutorials, research experience, seminars, and workshops designed to suit specific course learning outcomes.
