In a nutshell

This Bachelor of Education degree prepares students to become confident, reflective early childhood teachers for children aged birth to five years. With seven professional experience placements and a blend of on-campus and online study options, graduates are equipped to lead in Christian, private, state and corporate early childhood settings across Australia and internationally.

What you'll need to get in

Applicants must meet at least one entry requirement: Australian/New Zealand secondary education with ATAR of 63+, International Baccalaureate Diploma (24+ points), NCEA Level 3, uniTEST/TOWA, STAT, or International Big Picture Learning Credential. Alternatively, applicants with VET qualifications (Certificate IV or higher, or Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care), prior university study (2+ units completed), or overseas qualifications may apply. All applicants must be 18+ years old and submit a Personal Statement for Initial Teaching Training (PSITE). International students on student visas must study full-time on campus. English language proficiency required: minimum IELTS 7.5 overall (7.0 reading/writing, 8.0 listening/speaking).

Subject breakdown

The course comprises 32 compulsory units (192 credit points) across five areas of study: Curriculum Studies focusing on play-based, intentional, socially just and inclusive early childhood curriculum aligned with National Quality Standards; Christian Education Studies reflecting Seventh-day Adventist faith tradition and values; Education Studies providing theoretical foundations for teaching and learning; Professional Development and Experience including 95 days of practical placements across diverse early childhood settings; and Academic Literacy Studies scaffolding academic writing and integrity skills. Key subjects include Health & Safety in ECEC, Play-based Pedagogies, EC Curriculum (Arts, Numeracy, Technology, Science, Outdoor Play, Multiple Literacies), Child Development, Planning Assessment and Evaluation, Inclusion & Early Intervention, Digital Technologies, Leadership & Advocacy, and Social & Environmental Education.
