What you'll need to get in

Entry Level 1 (48 credit points): An Australian bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline with at least a credit (60%) average, including successful completion of coursework in programming, foundational mathematics for computing, and computer network architecture. For AI specialisation, knowledge of calculus and linear algebra at undergraduate physical science or engineering level is required. Entry Level 2 (24 credit points): A Monash University Graduate Certificate of Computer Science with at least credit (60%) average. All applicants must meet English language requirements and Monash University minimum entrance requirements.

Subject breakdown

Part A - Core Studies: Introduction to Databases (relational modelling, SQL implementation, database design principles), Architecture and Networks (operating systems, CPU, memory, storage, network security), Foundations of Computing (mathematical methods, tree and graph data structures, set theory, logic, probability, statistics, linear algebra). Part A - Programming Elective: Choose either Java Programming (object-oriented design, software development) or Introduction to Python (programming fundamentals, algorithms, data structures). Part B - Specialist Core Units: Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (automated search, knowledge representation, reasoning under uncertainty), Software Engineering (software development lifecycle, problem-solving), Introduction to Cryptography for Cybersecurity (symmetric/asymmetric encryption, digital signatures, key management). Part B - Specialist Electives: Choose from Web Applications Development, Mobile and Distributed Computing Systems, User Interface Design and Usability, Software Testing and Quality Standards, Software Security, Network Security, Cyber Operations, Cloud Computing and Security, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Intelligent Image and Video Analysis, or Discrete Optimisation.
