Launch your cyber security career with this technician-level qualification. Learn essential technical skills including network security, threat mitigation, and penetration testing to work as a cyber security technician across organisations and government bodies.
Applicants must complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) online test to ensure required literacy and numeracy levels are met, and undertake a Pre-training Review interview. Minimum language, literacy, and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skill Framework are required. For Free TAFE eligibility, students must have completed Certificate III in Information Technology. Preferred prior IT studies or competency in implementing software, presenting research, writing reports, and working autonomously and in groups.
The course comprises 16 units: 8 core and 8 elective. Core units cover analysing and presenting research information, workplace health and safety communication, collaborative ICT work, basic network concepts and protocols, cyber security testing procedures, recognising cyber security needs, developing cyber security projects, and applying cyber security legislation and ethics. Elective units include configuring cloud services, automating processes, writing scripts, implementing network security infrastructure, evaluating incident response plans, exposing website vulnerabilities, investigating Windows security features, and testing cyber exploitation concepts.
