You must be at least 15 years old to enrol. No formal qualifications are required. For TAFE at School pathway, you must be a Year 11 or 12 student (or Year 10 in some instances) enrolled at a participating high school. For apprenticeships and traineeships, you must already be employed. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are beneficial. A genuine interest in beauty services and client care is essential.
The course comprises 12 core units and 4 elective units covering all aspects of beauty therapy. Core units include applying cosmetic tanning products, advising on beauty products and services, providing lash and brow services, waxing services, designing and applying makeup, providing manicure and pedicure services, using electric file equipment, researching beauty industry information, conducting salon financial transactions, providing complete salon services, workplace compliance, and health and safety practices. Elective units vary by campus location and include infection control standards, remedial camouflage makeup, nail art, workplace health and wellbeing, makeup for photography, and eyelash extensions. All training occurs in industry-standard facilities including a public-facing beauty salon.
