Gain practical skills in land management and ecosystem conservation to launch a career as a park ranger or conservation officer. This hands-on Certificate III combines classroom learning with real field experience across Queensland locations.
You must have successfully completed year 10 or equivalent. If you are under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions apply. You will be invited to complete a Skills Check to assess your current abilities in English, Maths, and Digital Technology (recommended benchmark level 3 for each). You should have access to a reliable internet connection and a computer with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Personal protective equipment including long-sleeved shirt, long pants, safety footwear, safety glasses, ear protection, sun-safe hat, sunscreen, secateurs, gloves, water bottle, and USB drive are required.
Core units cover ecological and cultural site inspections, workplace health and safety, and foundational competencies. Elective units include plant identification and recognition, fauna identification, biosecurity measures, chemical handling and application, ecosystem maintenance and reconstruction, seed collection and propagation, machinery operation and maintenance, weed and pest control, soil improvements, fencing construction, water sampling and testing, site inspections, and first aid in remote locations. You'll complete all core units plus 14 elective units from the comprehensive list provided.
